Description

Directgov launched in April 2004 on both the Web and digital TV (Sky initially then also Telewest and NTL, now Virgin), moved onto mobile phones in 2005 and then analogue TV in early 2009.  Across all channels and devices it offers an easy to use, engaging and open relationship with its users.  The Directgov website attracts nearly 18.5 million visits a month; it is the second most visited government website and is on target to become the most visited during 2009. Directgov brings together an increasing number of online government services - from booking a driving test and taxing your car to renewing your passport or applying for a student loan. DWP services currently include information about jobs and skills, disability and benefits.

By 2011, all public facing services on central government websites should be available on the Directgov website.  A 'web convergence' programme is currently under way to migrate information and services from the large number of existing government websites onto Directgov, so that people will be able to find what they need easily, all in one place.  Directgov is also available through digital TV's interactive services on Virgin Media and Sky, as well as web-enabled mobile phone networks
