Debt Management
The Debt Management organisation is part of the Department for Work and Pensions.
Our job is to recover money that has been:
- overpaid because of a mistake or fraud, or
- paid as a loan and needs to be repaid.
What we do
The services provided by Debt Management include:
- Management and recovery of benefit overpayments and loans.
Our Customer Charter applies to this area of work. - Recovery of Social Security benefits from compensation payments.
Our Compensation Recovery Unit has its own Customer Charter. - Recovery of National Health Service charges for treatment of injuries arising from road traffic accidents.
- Collection of certain maintenance payments that are not the responsibility of the Child Support Agency.
- A letter forwarding service for insurance companies and financial institutions.
Private sector organisations
Debt Management also uses a number of private sector organisations to help recover debt.
