Evaluating progress
We are evaluating our progress in meeting the challenges presented by an ageing society.
Following the publication of “Opportunity Age” in 2005, we set up 33 indicators to monitor older people’s well-being and independence, with the aim of measuring improvements in overall quality of life. The latest update on progess was published on 29 January 2009.
In 2007, in consultation with older people, we developed the Public Service Agreement 17 to “tackle poverty and promote greater independence and wellbeing in later life”. This is being measured by five key indicators to assess progress over the three year period 2008–2011.
